2020 Ford Explorer vs 2019 Ford Explorer

SUVs are immensely popular these days, but nearly three decades ago when SUVs were primarily a niche segment, the Ford Explorer was leading the way. After all of these years, the Ford Explorer is still going strong, especially with a pleasing redesign for the 2020 model-year. Here at James Braden Ford, we highlight the changes for the all-new 2020 Explorer in this 2020 Ford Explorer vs 2019 Ford Explorer comparison.

The biggest change for the 2020 Explorer is its exterior design. While it still has some of the trademark design elements of past Explorer models, such as the body-color C-pillars and blacked-out A-pillars and D-pillars, overall it has a more sporty look, with a sloping roofline, a shorter front overhang, and painted aluminum wheels. For a higher level of luxury, the 2020 Explorer Platinum grade has satin finish on the grille and a twin-panel moonroof.

Differences Between the 2020 Ford Explorer and 2019 Ford Explorer

Automotive shoppers who desire an SUV that delivers high-level performance will be very impressed with the new 2020 Explorer ST grade, which is powered by a specially tuned 3.0L EcoBoost engine. Mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission, the engine doles out 400 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque — which enables the Explorer ST to reach a top speed of 143 mph (230 kph). The Explorer ST also has a Sport Mode, which delivers a very engaging and responsive driving experience.

Do you place a premium on efficiency? The 2020 Explorer offers an all-new hybrid grade. Its 3.3L hybrid powertrain delivers a total system output of 318 horsepower, with a total range of 500 miles (805 km).

In addition to the new design, the high-performance ST grade, and the new hybrid option, the 2020 Explorer offers a plethora of new technologies. This includes driving assistance technologies like Reverse Brake Assist and Active Park Assist, a 10.1-inch portrait-mounted touchscreen, and the Terrain Management System, which provides greater off-road capabilities with its selectable drive modes.
