Ford EV Customers Get Access to 12,000 Tesla Superchargers: Easing Charging Anxieties

Ford Motor Company has announced a significant agreement with Tesla Motors, granting Ford electric vehicle (EV) customers access to more than 12,000 Tesla Superchargers across the U.S. and Canada. By early next year, this access will double the number of fast-chargers available to Ford EV owners, further enhancing the convenience and ease of charging.

Customers of Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning, and E-Transit will be able to utilize the Tesla Superchargers via an adapter and software integration, with activation and payment facilitated through FordPass or Ford Pro Intelligence.

In a move that will benefit future Ford EVs, the company plans to incorporate the North American Charging Standard (NACS) connector directly into their next-generation electric vehicles by 2025. This integration will eliminate the need for an adapter to access Tesla Superchargers, streamlining the charging process for Ford EV owners.

Jim Farley, Ford President, and CEO expressed excitement over this development, stating, "Widespread access to fast-charging is absolutely vital to our growth as an EV brand, and this breakthrough agreement comes as we are ramping up production of our popular Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning, and preparing to launch a series of next-generation EVs starting in 2025."

Rebecca Tinucci, Tesla's Senior Director of Charging Infrastructure, shared enthusiasm for welcoming Ford owners and other NACS-equipped electric vehicles to the Tesla Supercharger network, furthering the mission to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy.

To enable Ford F-150 Lightning, Mustang Mach-E, and E-Transit vehicles equipped with the Combined Charging System (CCS) port to access Tesla's V3 Superchargers, Tesla will develop an adapter. Subsequently, Ford's future EVs will come equipped with the NACS charge port, eliminating the need for an adapter and providing direct access to Tesla Superchargers from 2025 onward.

Marin Gjaja, Chief Customer Officer of Ford Model e, praised Tesla's reliability in creating an efficient charging system and highlighted the benefits of NACS, saying, "Overall, this provides a superior experience for customers."

Ford's BlueOval Charge Network, already the largest public charging network in North America with over 84,000 chargers, including access to over 10,000 public DC fast-chargers, will further expand with the addition of over 12,000 Tesla Superchargers. This integration will create the single largest integrated fast-charge network across the U.S. and Canada, significantly reducing charging anxieties for Ford customers. Additionally, Ford dealers plan to add approximately 1,800 public-facing fast-chargers and locations to the BlueOval Charge Network by early 2024.
